Bio

Sylvia Montesinos began painting as a child but her curiosity about human biology and behavior drew her to medicine and psychiatry. She went on to earn an MD specializing in psychiatry in 2002 and worked for eight years in mental health.

When opportunity arose, Montesinos decided to focus her efforts on art and during time in New Mexico she studied art at UNM. Born and raised in Costa Rica with a bicultural background, she was influenced by the many painters in her Ecuadorian father’s family. A recent health crisis transformed Montesinos’ process and her work which has become strongly intuitive and focused on the present moment.
